Hi - voip newbie here! an excited one he he
Can someone show me how to set it up with a phone please. I looked at setup on this site but i can't figure out where to plug in the phone cable. Have a philips voip321 (hope this is sufficient in the first place...?) and i'm wondering is the base thing an ATA?(whatever that is...) Anyway - if anyone can help me in plain english it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Gill
Isn't this a Skype phone ? - read here about the difference between freespeech and skype [support.freespeech.ie] Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 02/17/2007 12:01PM by moderator.
yes it is but its a dual phone so it can act as a normal landline too - so wouldn't that work as the phone if i had the ATA?
Read the link above...
Yes, any analogue phone should work if you plug it into an ATA.
so in your setup you would switch between skype and freespeech.
YES, does that sound ok?
me again. That philips phone is rubbish. It won't work on vista. So i'm bringin it back to the shop. Problem with the driver. Have tried everything and I give up. Several other people seem to have the same or similar problems according to the skype forum...
So in order to use skype and freespeech with a phone compatible with vista I was going to buy this one: [accessories.skype.com:80] Does it look ok? Also, I have ripwave from Irish Broadband, so I already submitted a ticket and got a very useful answer about what equipment I need. : a router with built in VOIP capability and the ticket suggested this one: [www.digidave.co.uk] So do you think that the dual phone i'm lookin at would work ok with ripwave and that TA at digidaves...??
p.s. That TA is nice and cheap which would suit me...
I can't comment on skype phones, I can tell you that adaptor is good value for the price and should work well with any analogue phone of reasonable quality.
I would also point out that normally the more you spend on equipment, the better quality is.
Thanks for all your help. I'll start with the adaptor anyway and a basic analogue phone. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
