Do these Calls Cost?

From a freespeech.ie issued VOIP number 076xxxxxx is there a charge for the following:-

1.
To phone another 076 number issued by a provider other than Freespeech?

2.
To phone an English VOIP number (0844) issued by a provider other than Freespeech?

I should be grateful for any information you can provide. I understand that VOIP to VOIP when both are freespeech issued numbers are free of cost for either Irish or English (0844) numbers.

Thank you.

Not if we have a peering arrangement. Currently we have a peering arrangement with Blueface. You can also dial using a SIP uri from the online phonebook.

0844 is not a VOIP number range. You can't call UK 0844 numbers from freespeech, this range is generally not dialable from outside the UK. You can dial other SIP providers using uri dialing. [support.freespeech.ie]

Thank you for the clarification.

In summary it appears that I can directly phone a freespeech.ie 076 number, a freespeech.co.uk 0844 number or a blueface 076 number, from my freespeech.ie 076 number, for free.
All other calls are charged according to the freespeech.ie rates applicable at the time.

Unfortunately web based or PC based calling is not applicable when using an ATA, so that idea is not going to work for me.

Thank you again for your answers, and if I have misunderstood anything please put me right.

Thank you.

Web based calling will work for an ATA. When you click on the phonebook entry your local ATA should ring then you pick up and the call is through connected.

What I had meant to say was that I would not necessarily have access to a PC when making a call, so I couldn't use that method.

I did try to use it but it failed to work.
Is this function supported for Linux?
It told me it couldn't find my phone, yet the site acknowledges that my phone is active and the recipient of my attempted call is on-line.

I am not one bit bothered that this does not function, just wondered if it might be caused by my choice of Operating System.

There are some issues with some browsers. We are in the process of updating the network and website features. We will be introducing short-code dialing which will work from your ATA (attach a short code like 123 to sip:me@voip.com, so you just press 123 when to call it)

That sounds very interesting indeed.
I look forward to trying it when it is in place.

Thank you for letting me know.

How do I know my own uri?

not sure what you mean exactly

you have a uri with freespeech sip:076XXXXX@freespeech.ie

if you mean a custom domain, then you have to purchase a domain similar to the way you purchase a domain for email or web hosting.
